18 Apr 2008 - Ard Luck On Ports U11's Again

U11 Lisburn Junior Invitational League Cup
Semi Final
Portadown FC Youth 0 - 3 Ards Youth
For the second time this season Portadown FC Youth U11's fell at the semi final hurdle of a cup competition as they went down 3-0 to Ards Youth.
Portadown started well and had the better of the opening 20 minutes although Ryan Wells did have to make a superb goal line clearance to stop Ards taking the lead. At the other end Peter Campbell and Jonathan Douglas were causing problems for Ards defence. During what was the Port's best spell of the game Scott Rae, Brett McKinney and Stephen Duke all went close to scoring the opening goal. Then out of the blue Ards were 1 - 0 up, a defensive error gifted Ards the lead which they held at half time.
The goal seemed to set Portadown back as Ards started the second half much stronger and were now having the better of the game. The crucial difference being when Ards were on top they added two more goals to take the game beyond Portadown. To the boy's credit they never gave up and Jake Richardson almost pulled a goal back before Scott Rae thumped the crossbar with a tremendous free kick. However on the second half performance Ards deserved to run out winners and good luck to them in the final, also in their up coming NIBFA semi-final as they represent the Lisburn League.
A disappointing day for the boy's, but there is no doubt everyone will re-group and prepare for the vital run of league fixtures ahead.
