9 May 2008 - Annual Club Dinner & Prize Night

|
Last night, Thursday 8th May, saw the annual club dinner and prize night take place in the newly refurbished conference suite at the Craigavon Civic Centre.
The guests of honour at the event were Portadown players Johnny Topley and Wesley Boyle and local sports shop owner and Portadown FC Youth Academy Director Nigel Armstrong.
The proceedings were opened by Club Chairman Ricky Steenson who welcomed all the guests, parents and players to the evening followed by the blessing by Alan Ruddell. |

After the meal was finished the real business of the evening started with the awarding of the seasons prizes. Before the prizes were handed out Wesley Boyle thanked the club for inviting both himself and Johnny Topley to the evening.
The first batch of prizes were handed out to the players by Wesley Boyle and they were as follows:
The second batch of prizes were handed out by Johnny Topley.
The final award of the night was the new award, The Jewellery by Van Scoy Acheivement Award. It was decided by the committee earlier this year to have this new award where members of the club would be rewarded for something they have done or acheived. To win this award the person had to be nominated by an adult and a special committee within the management committee would then decide who should win from the nominees. The award was given to the website editor Keith Hall (yep me) for the work done over the last season to keep the website up to date and putting the reports & scores into the newspaper.
On a personal note, when receiving the award I was asked to make a speech but I was so shocked at receiving the award I couldn't think of what to say. I now have my chance to correct this. Firstly, I have found out who nominated me and I wish to thank Colin Ross for his nomination. Secondly, I would like to thank the members of the committee who decided to award the prize to me and it is a great honour to be nominated and awarded the prize. Lastly, I received this award because of the success of the club's website but the website would not be a success without the contribution of a great number of people. Yes I do spend many hours each week working on the website but it couldn't be done without the contribution I receive from people like Colin Ross, Brian Lyttle, Sid Irwin, Nick Rusk, Trevor Hall, Michael Gray, Paul Ludlow, Paul Rae, Myles Smyth, Michael Lynch, Derek Skelton, Nigel Davison and Alex Scott. Also the photographs I receive from many people that include Derek Skelton, Angela Smyth and of course Richard Cowan (my inbox is always full of pictures from Richard). To all those people and more this award is not only for me but for all their work as well. I hope everyone keeps working and provides me with the same work to keep our website one of the best in the country for years to come.
